Immersion Series

‘These paintings were my contribution to "No Longer Apart But Together: Interdisciplinary Art In/After a Global Pandemic. The project, conceived and directed by Monica Mak(filmmaker), initiated a collaboration between myself(painter), Diana Tso(poet/actress), and Shiva Shoeybi(mixed-media installation.  The inter-arts artwork(funded by the Canada Council for the Arts) was done together but remotely, through the 2021-2022 COVID pandemic and into the post-COVID period, and focuses on our experiences as artists sustaining art processes during and after a global pandemic. It includes our fascination with nature and water as sources of comfort, clarity, and catharsis, and resulted in an experimental documentary intermixing the aforementioned works (by Monica)’

Painting began in November 2021 and was completed in 2024.   Four paintings on Belgium linen, each (80”H x 35” L, 1 1/2” deep).

These 4 paintings will be exhibited at the Shelburne County Museum, in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, from September 1 to 17, 2026, at the Museum by the Sea. Monica Mak(filmmaker) will be presenting the first public exhibition of her experimental art documentary, Apart But Together, with her three film collaborators, poet/storyteller Diana Tso, mixed-media artist Shiva Shoeybi, and painter Joanna Nash.
